Koren Shadmi - illustrator

Written by Myra on October 13, 2009 – 4:20 am -

I first stumbled upon Koren Shadmi’s comic book at a comic book store in Paris. Little did I know that his comic book was translated.. and that he was an amazing illustrator with strong concepts. Here’s a glimpse at his work.

P.S: If you’re into really strange.. twisted (with a hint of dark themes), then In The Flesh is something you should check out.

A bit random, but the French version of In The Flesh is slightly different than the English one. My friend picked up a copy and there were the odd 1 or two comic that were different from each other ;)

Guerra de la Paz is an art collective, formed by Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz - Cuban artists who are currently residing/working in Miami, Florida.

They work with found objects, transforming them into a whole new form and structure through compiling them together. These art pieces are then brought to life, filled with their politically driven artwork.

Banksy: Vandalism or Appropriation?

Written by Myra on August 9, 2009 – 7:49 pm -

Vandalism: Destructing someone else’s property
Appropriation: Taking an artwork and building on it to change it’s meaning or borrowing it’s idea/aspects - transforming it into another piece of art

Food for thought: Is Banksy’s work considered as Vandalism or Appropriation? He has defaced a couple of artworks in galleries, sending his messages out to viewers.. For those who are unfamiliar, Banksy is a street artist with worths that have strong underlinings of social issues, culture and ethics.

“Writing graffiti is about the most honest way you can be an artist. It takes no money to do it, you don’t need an education to understand it and there’s no admission fee.” - Banksy

“When you go to an art gallery you are simply a tourist looking at the trophy cabinet of a few millionaires.” - Banksy

“The thing I hate the most about advertising is that it attracts all the bright, creative and ambitious young people, leaving us mainly with the slow and self-obsessed to become our artists.. Modern art is a disaster area. Never in the field of human history has so much been used by so many to say so little. ” - Banksy

…an artist worth exploring.

Dollar Bill Origami

Written by Myra on August 9, 2009 – 7:23 pm -

Won Park is an origami master. He transforms dollar bills to everyday objects and exotic creatures.

Maybe it’s because I can only think in 2D, but being able to transform a plain of paper into a 3D form without cutting of gluing is quite impressive.
